Tuning FAQ
Whether you’re running Holley EFI, FuelTech, or HP Tuners, the goal at TCTuned is to make the tuning process straightforward and get your combination working properly on the street, dyno, or track. Every vehicle is different, so pricing, turnaround time, and the amount of tuning required can vary depending on the combination and the condition of the vehicle. General Tuning Questions What tuning platforms do you support? TCTuned primarily supports: Holley EFI FuelTech HP Tuners Support depends on the specific ECU, vehicle, combination, and service requested. If you’re unsure whether we can work with your setup, contact us with the vehicle and ECU information before purchasing a tuning service.
Do you offer dyno tuning and remote tuning? Yes.
We offer both in-person dyno tuning and remote tuning depending on the ECU and application. Remote tuning is available for many combinations where the customer can provide quality datalogs and make the requested changes or testing between revisions.
What information do you need before tuning my vehicle? The more complete the information, the better. Please be prepared to provide: Year, make, and model Engine combination ECU Fuel type Injector size Power adder Turbo or supercharger information Transmission Converter if applicable Rear gear Tire size Current boost level Current calibration Current issues Intended use Power or performance goals For race vehicles, additional information such as boost control, traction control, driveshaft speed, wheel speed, and track data may also be helpful.
Does my vehicle need to be mechanically ready before tuning? Yes.
Tuning cannot correct mechanical problems. Before tuning, the vehicle should have: No fuel leaks No coolant leaks No exhaust leaks affecting oxygen sensor readings Correct fuel pressure Properly functioning sensors Proper ignition system Good battery and charging system Correct spark plugs and plug gap Properly installed injectors Properly functioning throttle body No wiring problems No known engine or transmission problems If the vehicle cannot safely and consistently complete testing, tuning may need to stop until the mechanical issue is corrected.
Holley EFI FAQ
What Holley systems do you tune? TCTuned works with many Holley EFI applications, including standalone performance and race systems. Common applications include Holley systems used on: Turbocharged engines Supercharged engines Naturally aspirated combinations Street cars Drag cars Race-only applications Contact us with your exact Holley ECU and combination if you are unsure.
Can you remote tune my Holley? Yes, many Holley combinations can be tuned remotely. You will need to be able to: Connect to the ECU with Holley software Send your current Global File Record and send datalogs Follow testing instructions Upload revised calibration files The quality of the remote tune depends heavily on the quality of the information and datalogs provided. Can you build a Holley base file? Yes. A base file is intended to provide a starting calibration for the combination you provide. A base file is not the same as a completed tune. The engine and vehicle still need to be checked, started, logged, and calibrated based on actual data.
Can you help with Holley boost control? Yes. Depending on the combination, we can assist with areas such as: Boost control setup CO2 control Dome pressure Boost versus time Boost versus speed Boost versus gear Launch control Power management Race applications may require additional datalogging and track testing.
Do you tune Holley transmission control? Depending on the application, yes. Transmission tuning may include shift scheduling, converter control, pressure-related calibration, and other transmission functions available through the ECU.
FuelTech FAQ
What FuelTech ECUs do you support? TCTuned supports FuelTech engine management systems used in performance and racing applications, including systems such as the FT550 and FT600. Exact support depends on the combination and the functions being used.
Can you remote tune FuelTech? Yes. FuelTech works very well for remote tuning when the vehicle is properly set up and good datalogs are available. You will need to provide: Current calibration Complete engine information Injector information Fuel type MAP sensor information Ignition setup Boost-control information Datalogs requested during the tuning process
Can you set up a new FuelTech ECU from scratch? Yes. We can assist with initial ECU configuration and base calibration. This can include areas such as: Engine configuration Injector setup Fuel maps Ignition maps Sensor calibration Rev limits Boost control Launch functions Data acquisition Additional tuning is normally required after the vehicle is running.
Can you help set up FuelTech for a race car? Yes. FuelTech is commonly used in serious drag-racing applications, and we can work with race-specific strategies depending on the combination. This may include: Launch strategy Boost management Power management RPM control Gear-based strategies Datalog analysis Track tuning
HP Tuners FAQ
What vehicles can you tune with HP Tuners? HP Tuners supports a large number of GM vehicles. Not every vehicle or controller is supported the same way, so contact us with: Year Make Model Engine Transmission ECU/TCM information Modifications before purchasing if you are unsure.
Can you remote tune an HP Tuners vehicle? Yes, many HP Tuners applications can be handled remotely. The customer will normally need access to a compatible HP Tuners interface and software. You must be able to: Read the vehicle Flash calibration files Record datalogs Send logs back for review
Do I need my own HP Tuners interface? For remote tuning, generally yes. You will normally need a compatible HP Tuners interface and enough credits to license the required controllers. Dyno customers do not necessarily need to own their own interface.
Can you tune both the engine and transmission? On supported applications, yes. Engine and transmission calibration may include areas such as: Fueling Ignition timing Airflow Torque management Throttle response Shift scheduling Shift pressure Torque converter control Rev and speed limits where appropriate Available tables vary greatly between controllers.
Remote Tuning FAQ
How does remote tuning work? The basic process is: You send us the required vehicle information and current calibration. We review the combination. You receive a starting or revised calibration. You flash the calibration into the vehicle. You perform the requested test and record a datalog. You send the log back. We review the data and make the next revision. This continues until the purchased tuning service is completed.
How quickly will I receive revisions? Turnaround depends on workload and the service purchased. Rush services may be available when faster turnaround is required. Can I send random logs without being asked? It is better to follow the requested testing procedure. A useful datalog needs the correct channels, operating conditions, and test method. A long log with missing information often creates more work without providing useful data.
What happens if I change parts after the tune? Any major change can affect the calibration. Examples include: Injectors Fuel type Turbo Supercharger Camshaft Cylinder heads Intake Throttle body MAP sensor Fuel pressure Engine displacement Compression ratio Additional tuning may be required.
Dyno Tuning FAQ
What should I do before bringing my vehicle to the dyno? The vehicle should arrive ready to run. Check: Fluids Fuel level Fuel pressure Tires Wheel lug torque Battery Charging system Plugs Belts Hoses Wiring Sensors Boost-control plumbing Vacuum lines Race vehicles should also have any laptops, cables, wheel-speed sensors, boost-control equipment, and required accessories ready.
Will you fix problems during my dyno appointment? Minor issues may be addressed when practical, but a dyno tuning appointment is not intended to become a full repair session. Major mechanical, electrical, fuel-system, or wiring problems may require the session to be stopped and rescheduled. Important A tune can only be as good as the mechanical combination it is working with. Providing accurate information, following instructions, and sending quality datalogs makes the process faster and produces better results. If you are unsure which tuning service you need, contact TCTuned by email with your vehicle information before purchasing.
